Future Homes Standard Design Checklist for Architects
Practical guidance for residential projects in England.
Use this checklist at concept and detailed-design stages. It is a coordination prompt, not a substitute for the Approved Documents or a project assessment.
- Confirm the route. Record each building, the building-control application and evidence of commencement. Do not assume a whole phase has the same transition status.
- Set the geometry. Coordinate site plan, floor plans, elevations, sections, orientation and dwelling types. Keep a revision register.
- Agree the fabric. Identify wall, roof and floor build-ups, junction strategy, windows and doors. Flag provisional choices.
- Coordinate ventilation and overheating. Reserve space and routes early; consider glazing and shading alongside daylight.
- Choose services together. Heating, hot water, controls and renewable electricity affect space, roof and electrical design.
- Check performance early. Assess while design options can still change, then update the model as specifications firm up.
- Keep an as-built trail. Collect final specifications, commissioning information and changes for completion-stage assessment.
The government circular highlights low-carbon heating, high efficiency and on-site renewable electricity. Request a quotation, then email your drawings to info@uksaps.co.uk and tell UKSAPS which decisions remain open.
