Future Homes Standard guidance
Future Homes Standard guidance and practical compliance support for architects, housebuilders and developers working in England.
Plan for the standard early
The Future Homes Standard changes the energy and greenhouse-gas requirements for new homes in England. Low-carbon heating, high energy efficiency and on-site renewable electricity all need consideration alongside the building design.
Start with the building-control history and an early coordinated design. Dwelling form, fabric, glazing, ventilation, heating and renewable systems affect the assessment; the right solution depends on the individual project.
Which rules apply?
For most work outside the higher-risk building regime, the 2026 amendments take effect on 24 March 2027, subject to transitional provisions. The building-control submission and commencement on the relevant building both matter. Read the key dates and transition guide.
